*Here is how
you can get family members to "objectify" their responses beyond
the emotional "yuck" or "yum:" First, everyone
takes at least one bite without saying a word but thinks of a ranking
number. Second, go around the table with everyone stating his or her
ranking number. Finally, go
around the table again asking for a one to three word expression (words
relating to taste, texture, color, temperature, smell--salty, sweet, sour,
crumbly, sticky, creamy, dry, etc.) that describes why the ranking number was chosen.
Here you are educating children to go beyond "yuck" and
"yum" and give descriptive words to responses to foods.
